I retired from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) as the communications manager for its Western Slope regions after 19 years of service. I thoroughly enjoyed working with CDOT project contractors and their public information managers to provide timely and accurate information to community members, media, government agencies and elected officials. A great deal of my work at CDOT also involved crisis communications management, events planning, technical writing and strategic planning. Prior to CDOT, I was a communications coordinator for Bonfils Blood Center in Denver; a writer/editor for a publishing firm outside of Chicago, which specialized in college career guides; and a writer/assistant editor for the CU Boulder College of Engineering publications office. I have produced several public safety videos--writing scripts and coordinating talent, video clips and editors--working well within the parameters of strict deadlines and very low budgets. My first video for CDOT, "Highway to the Winter Zone," won a 1998 Telly Award.
